Rotary Youth Leadership Award scheme 2015

For several years now the Rotary Club of Osgoldcross and Elmet has sponsored a student on the Rotary Youth Leadership Award scheme (RYLA), and another one on the Ocean Youth Trust scheme (OYT).

This year five excellent candidates were interviewed by a panel of Rotary Club members at Monk Fryston Hall in order to determine who would benefit the most from the experience. The five-day courses are designed to help students develop in self-confidence and leadership skills and each places them in challenging situations.

It was a most difficult decision this year to chose the successful candidates as all five were worthy nominees. We wished we could have sponsored them all.

However, we had to select two and these are as follows.

Rhianne Downey from De Lacey Academy will represent us on the RYLA week and Olivia Cooper from Sherburn Church will represent us on OYT.

We wish then both good luck and hope they benefit as much from the experience as have past participants.

They will be returning to the Club after their courses to tell us about their experiences; we look forward to hearing all about it.

If anyone is interested in being considered for next year’s entry they can get in touch with Wendy Easterby  – for further details.
