The Rotary Club of Osgoldcross & Elmet held their annual president’s evening on Friday 13th June 2014. Held at Dintingdales restaurant at Scarthingwell Golf Club we celebrated yet another successful year. With a combination of a wonderful meal, a fantastic guest speaker and the welcoming of our new president, the evening was a huge success and enjoyed by all involved. The evening began with a welcome from our current president June Lancaster, greeting the guests followed by the meal. The main feature of the night was our guest speaker Professor Hugo Mascie-Taylor. Prof Hugo has worked in the NHS and the medical industry since being appointed as a consultant physician in medicine for the elderly in 1986 at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds. From there he moved to Seacroft Hospital in Leeds in 1991 to become clinical director and to successfully merge the departments of General and Elderly Medicine and to establish the first multi-disciplinary practice development unit – later the subject of a book. Since then he has moved on to work in many more areas and hospitals further developing his skills and expertise. He is now advising a number of public and private sector organisations on organisational and governance issues. Prof Hugo gave a speech about his past and on-going work with the NHS with an open and interactive discussion with the audience. After the vote of thanks from Ted Bellamy, it was time to welcome and give toast to our new president Pam Smith, with the final toast given by June Lancaster. The evening finished off with music, drinks and socialising between members and guests. It was a brilliant way to end an old year and begin the new with Rotary.
