Friday 13th March was the Osgoldcross and Elmet Rotary club’s annual presidents held at Monk Fryston Hall. The club celebrated another successful year with a 3 course meal and a guest speaker Sir Paul Edwards, CEO – Schools Partnership Trust Academies. Starting off with Grace from PP Howard Croft, and a speach from President Pam Smith, we then heard from the speaker.
Sir Paul was a headteacher for 18 years, during which time he led schools under his leadership to achieving outstanding judgements with OFSTED and in the case of Garforth Academy, led it to be one of the highest attaining and most successful schools in the North of England.
Since 1997 Sir Paul has been involved in working with schools in challenging circumstances across the North of England, leading many out of serious weaknesses and special measures. Since 2004 Sir Paul has been Chief Executive of the School Partnership Trust Academies (SPTA) a charity which he formed to drive school improvement.
In January 2009 Sir Paul was Knighted for his services to education both locally and nationally in recognition of his innovative work with Trust schools and academies, school improvement and the DfE.
After the speaker, they had a vote of thanks and a final toast before the guests left. The evening finished off with music, drinks and socialising between members and guests. It was a brilliant way to end an old year and begin the new with Rotary.
