Sherburn High Open Day

The Osgoldcross & Elmet Rotary Club & the Sherburn in Elmet Business Network Group are each taking a stand at the upcoming Sherburn High Open Day. The Sherburn High Open Day is welcoming all parents, carers, students and members of the public to join them on Saturday 23rd September from 10am – 2pm. It is a great opportunity to meet the teachers, governors and supporters of the school (us included). You can explore the different departments, subjects and extracurricular activities which the school offers, which ties into what we offer. The Osgoldcross & Elmet Rotary will be showcasing their youth activities including Young Chef and RYLA.

The BNG is also looking to support the local schools by offering mentoring, support, career advice, future planning guidance, work experience and much more! We are really looking forward to supporting the school and its students – and working with them for many years to come. Many members of the BNG have offered different expertise and backgrounds to help guide the students and support them plan their futures.

Mant of the local businesses welcome work experience students from the school every year and work alongside them for a week or 2. These local businesses often go on to employ local students who are entering the world of work. Whilst speaking to the students during the work experience/employment it became apparent that some external support would be greatly appreciated to help make their all-important future decisions.

During a monthly BNG group back in summer, it was decided that we as local businesses should get involved with the school to assist the students with whatever they should need help with. Many of the BNG members offered their experiences in their field to guide and mentor the students. Others offered more general guidance such as CV writing help, mock interviews, careers advice etc. We shared our ideas directly with the school – who were very open to our ideas and welcomed the help we would be providing.

Our stands are a great opportunity to find out what the BNG can offer to help the students and the extracurricular and experience opportunities that the Rotary Club can offer.

Come see us from 10am in the Main Hall.
